Permanent Markers

Can I sunburn a tattoo with permanent markers?

For mother's day I took a permanent marker and drew a heart with mom in it and of course an arrow going through it on my shoulder. To show my mother my love, I have been sitting outside letting the thing sunburn all day. I'm hoping I can wash off the marker and have a nice white line where the marker was. Is this possible with permanent markers? Am I waisting my time?
