Stop permanent markers from fading?

I got an autograph on my figure skates from a former Olympic champion, but after few weeks it's starting to fade. Is there any way I can make the permanent marker really permanent??? Oh, and in case you're wondering I don't use the skate on ice so that's not the problem.

1. You could apply resin over the skates, but the results will vary depending on the type of marker. Take a good picture of them, just in case. It's a shame, really, and I'm deeply sorry.
