How to get rid of the smell of permanent markers?

I recently used a sharpie to draw on my old converse, and now the stink, does anyone know how to get rid of that smell? Besides sticking them outside for a few days k thx

  1. I know this sounds crazy stick them in a plastic bag and put fabric softener sheets in the bag and the smell will go away. I did this for some furniture I bought at a garage sale to get rid of cigarette smell out of the furniture.
  2. well, the best thing you can do is to leave it somewhere far from you for less than a week.
  3. Try spritzing them with a febreze type product.. but test a part you can't see very well to make sure it doesn't make the marker run or smear. But really the smell should get out of them rather quickly.. and shouldn't be strong smelling at all. The more time that goes by, the less they should smell.
